  • Show off your shooting skills with the Metal Slug Anthology. This original collection of games includes seven Metal Slug releases, including Metal Slug, Metal Slug X, and Metal Slug 6. The games emulate the arcade systems, but the major benefit is that you can enjoy these video games without needing to put quarters in the slot to play. This PS2 release came out on March 27th, 2007. The action game has a rating of "Teen" by the ESRB for animated blood and violence. Up to two players can simultaneously play this video game, so grab one of your friends and battle it out.Metal Slug is a bona fide classic and looks great on the PlayStation 2. Choose from two different characters at the start of the game. Over the course of six levels, you'll shoot and bomb the enemy forces. At the end of each level is a giant screen-filling boss. At various points in the game, you can get behind the wheel of a massive tank. This tank will destroy anything in its path with ease.The second game in the anthology adds a number of enhancements. You can now transform into different forms during play, such as a mummy. There are new weapons and vehicles, like a gun-toting camel, and the number of characters has been increased from two to four. Metal Slug X is a remix of the second title, which is why SNK designates it with a letter instead of a number. It features more enemies per level, music, and a slightly altered level design.The third title in this PlayStation anthology introduces branching paths. At specific points in the title, you can choose from one of two routes. This choice gives the title an additional level of playability. The fourth title in the franchise also features new weapons and vehicles. It introduces two new playable characters: Trevor and Nadia. The fifth title in this anthology of games adds in a new sliding mechanic, letting you traverse levels quicker. It also adds cutscenes to the series. The sixth title in the franchise introduces the standard assortment of new vehicles, such as the Slug Driller. This title has a total of six playable characters. For the first time, it also has you teaming up with the enemy to fight an even bigger threat.In addition to the games themselves, SNK and Terminal Reality have packed in some bonus content. The art gallery lets you view concept art from all of the games. A sound gallery allows you to listen to your favorite tunes from any video game in the compilation. The Options setting lets you tweak the settings of any title. You can change the number of lives and toggle a rapid-fire option. Lastly, there is an interview with the creators responsible for this set of gaming classics.
